Coupling requirements by industry

A coupling that performs well on a cooling-tower fan can be badly wrong for a rolling-mill pinion drive. Duty cycle, shock loading, ambient conditions and the consequence of unplanned downtime all vary by industry, and the right coupling follows from the application rather than from the torque and speed numbers alone.

This cluster covers the industries where gear couplings carry the load in practice: steel rolling mills, cement plants, marine propulsion trains, pumps and compressors, and cranes and hoists. Each article states the duty conditions particular to that industry and the sizes and configurations actually supplied into it.

These articles describe real installed experience. An application covered here is one that has genuinely been supplied into.
